  • Attend meetings as a member of the PAF Committee when required;
  • Review and assess the PAF application forms submitted to the BARP Office;
  • Conduct private interviews with members and designated families to assess and review the particular situation in a timely manner;
  • Undertake and write up reports (sometimes in collaboration with other professionals), which meet specified standards and timescales;
  • Offer information, support and recommendations to the PAF Committee;
  • Recommend and offer suggestions about the best course of action for cases after preliminary investigations;
  • Liaise with members and professionals and make referrals of specific cases to other agencies whether in the private or public sectors;


  • Certification in social work, social care and welfare would be an asset.

Work experience

  • Relevant experience in a social work or social care setting in the private and/or public sector. Professional experience in the public sector would be an asset.


The volunteer(s) will need to show evidence of the following:

  • patience and the ability to remain calm in a crisis;
  • resilience;
  • flexibility to adapt to new roles, tasks and situations;
  • initiative;
  • strong observation, analytical and listening skills;
  • the capacity to absorb legal and procedural information;
  • the ability to negotiate, mediate and interpret on behalf of service users;
  • good organizational skills to work independently and plan meetings for a caseload of BARP members;
  • empathy, combined with a genuine desire to improve the quality of life of BARP members is essential, as is the ability to think on your feet and make difficult decisions under pressure. An interest or participation in some aspect of your local community is useful;
  • General administrative skills are also needed.


The selected volunteer will report to the Chairperson of the BARP Charitable Trust.

  • What is a Deductible? +

    Your deductible is the initial amount you must pay each year for covered health services before the Insurer will start to pay. You must be mindful of the limits within the plan.
  • Is there an annual deductible? +

    There is an annual Medical deductible of $500.00 per member with a maximum of two per family. The Deductible for the Dental Benefit and the Vision Benefit is $50.00 each.
  • What is Co-payment? +

    A co-payment is a fixed 20% amount you pay toward each medical service since the plan will pay 80% of eligible charges.
  • What is Co-insurance? +

    Coinsurance is a fixed 80%, rather than a flat amount, that the insurer pays toward medical service.
  • When are premium payments due? +

    Premiums are payable monthly and in advance. Payment must be made to the BARP office.
